Ukraine has unveiled an upgraded version of its Sea Baby unmanned surface vehicle (USV), now equipped with a 122 mm multiple rocket launcher and a remotely operated weapons station with a 12.7 mm machine gun.
Unlike the initial version, designed for single-use kamikaze attacks, the new Sea Baby is modular, reusable, and capable of performing multiple roles, engaging both maritime and land targets while providing self-defense in combat.
The operational range of the USV has been extended to over 1,500 km, and its payload capacity has doubled to 2,000 kg, allowing it to carry heavier weapon systems or larger explosives. Its flexible design enables rapid switching between configurations, whether for area rocket attacks or defense against enemy ships and aircraft, and can even combine both functions in a single vehicle.
Since its introduction in 2023, the Sea Baby has demonstrated effectiveness in attacks, including operations against the Kerch Bridge, and has altered the naval dynamics in the Black Sea. Ukrainian actions have forced Russia to relocate Black Sea Fleet units from Sevastopol to Novorossiysk, increasing transit times for vessels and prompting Moscow to invest in defenses against USVs. The Sea Baby’s modernization reflects Ukraine’s advances in innovative naval technologies and its maritime denial strategy in the conflict.
